Every week or so we’re reviewing books that we found interesting. These books may range from nonfiction to fantasy to informative to escapism. Our hope is that we find something for everyone, and to broaden awareness, access, and information pertaining to sex, sexual health, pleasure, and beyond!
Today we are diving into the complexities of life, through a lovely character driven fiction novel.
All Fours by Miranda July, follows a successful artist and mother, who sets out on a road trip from LA to New York, but twenty minutes into her drive, she pulls off the freeway, checks into a motel, and accidentally begins a whole new kind of journey. It is a raw, honest look at the psychosocial impacts of menopause, the fluidity of sexuality and the messy realities of raising children. The main character is beautifully flawed, navigating shifting desires, unconventional relationships, and the struggle to stay visible in a world that too often ignores women after they reach a certain age. The story doesn’t try to offer easy answers to the characters’ issues, which makes it all the more compelling. It’s complex, emotional, and at some points uncomfortable, perfect for anyone who loves character-driven stories that embrace life’s chaos!
