Clinic Experience
What to expect when you visit an Options for Sexual Health Clinic
Getting to know you
Whether it’s your first visit or not, once you arrive at the clinic we will ask you to complete to paperwork to assist us with proving the best care for you. Please ensure that you bring your Personal Health Number with you to each appointment (or if you do not have valid medical services coverage, cash to pay for the visit).
We work really hard to minimize wait times, but there are times when you may have to wait to see a health care provider. We want to make sure we give each of our patients the required amount of time to answer all of their questions.
Your Appointment
Once you have filled out your forms, you will meet one-to-one with our friendly staff, who will go through your history, answer your questions, and provide you with care or refer you if necessary. Our staff and volunteers are specially trained to answer many of the questions you might have about sexual and reproductive health, so feel free to ask them anything you want to know.
STI testing and Pap Screening
If you are coming in for one of our clinics for an STI test or Pap screening, you will discuss the different options available with your health care provider. You will need to determine how you will receive your results, and confirm contact information for any required follow up.
Receiving Birth Control
If you are visiting one of our clinics for a birth control appointment, you may be able to receive your prescription birth control from us depending on the plan of care decided by you and your health care provider. In BC, many contraceptives are available for free for people with MSP. For those without MSP, click here to see the prices of our birth control products. Please note that we accept cash only.
Have Questions After Your Visit?
You can contact our Sex Sense team as an additional resource. Sex Sense staff are available to answer any questions you may have forgotten to ask, as well as to give any follow-up information. Sex Sense is available by phone at 1-800-739-7367, Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., or by submitting a question via the web form found here. Sex Sense staff cannot access your chart or information.
Follow up and next visits
Depending on what you decide with your health care provider, you may need to book a follow up appointment, or visit the clinic again for a prescription renewal.
